Job Search Residence Permit for Students

Are you currently studying in Spain, or hoping to do so in the near future? Do you have plans to set up your own business in Spain? Well, we have good news for you. A new law has been made!

The way things use to be:

Foreign students who come to Spain to do and complete their studies want to gain experience in the working world or even venture into setting up their own business project. Unfortunately, the student residence permit does not allow them to stay in the country after they complete their studies. They could only stay until the expiration date of their NIE card (foreign identification number). This expiration date is usually the finish date of their course as designated by the university. Therefore, if these students wished to complete an internship or get a job they had to do so while studying here at the same time as once their course finished they had to leave the country.

New law and how it benefits you as a student!

This new law made in September 2018 benefits all students who want to work in Spain after their studies. You, as a foreigner with a student visa are now allowed stay in the country after finishing your studies as you can apply for your student residence permit to look for a job. You can start this procedure 60 days before or 90 days after you finish your studies in Spain. It gives you a maximum stay of 12 months so that you can find a job or start your own business project.

Bare in mind!

It is important to know that not all universities can give you this extensive opportunity. Only certain authorized universities are able to do this.
